This video summarizes the key messages of my keynote speech in Vilnius, Lithuania in April 2018.
This is an exciting experience and also a rewarding one as I realized that my books and articles are read by millions around the globe.
The key message I wanted to convey was, to win the competitive battles of the rising digital economy, focusing on technology only is strategic mistake. Instead, businesses must optimize their operational model.
OPTIMIZING THE OPERATIONAL MODEL SHOULD BE THE GOAL
The challenges for businesses and their IT department in the rising digital economy isn't the implementation of the recent technology innovations but to become competitive and generate revenue.
To achieve that they need to optimize their operational model, i's the proper set of people and skills, processes and practices, values and beliefs, and tools and infrastructure.
GLOBAL BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT IS CHANGING, CHANGE THE WAY YOU DO BUSINESS
The business environment is shifting to a more global, open, and highly competitive digital business environment. Businesses must adapt. Transforming your business isn't only a matter of changing the technology infrastructure. Toys R Us fail to resist Amazon because they changed the e-commerce infrastructure and didn't reinvent their business model. The company failed for bankruptcy a couple of months ago.
SMALL TECH STARTUPS ARE INNOVATING AND CHANGING THE COMPETITIVE GAME
By taking advantage of the recent technology breakthroughs, tech startups are substituting traditional products and services with highly innovative digital services. Established firms because of their size struggle to follow the innovation of the pace, they need to change their IT approach to the business. Many of them are dying because they fail to meet their transformation challenges.
THE NECESSITY TO ADAPT TO THE NEW COMPETITIVE CHALLENGES
Adjusting to the new competitive challenges for IT doesn't mean migrating the infrastructure to the cloud's IaaS layer. It means appropriately migrating the company's key functions to the cloud's SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS layer to make it agile and responsive to market opportunities. That's what The Complete ITaaS Delivery Model is about.
THE ROLE OF THE CIO
Many CIOs think their role is to deliver more applications, cheaper, and quicker. Cheaper and quicker isn't enough anymore.
What makes business competitive is your company's ability to deliver the right innovations to the right market segments at timing compatible with customer expectations. That's the new challenge of CIOs.
EXISTING CLOUD PRACTICES FAIL TO MEET THE NEW CHALLENGES
Most cloud migration initiatives seek to migrate IT to the cloud's IaaS layer. This is a fact, infrastructure has never and will never, on its own, create business value.
Appropriately migrating the company's key functions to the cloud's SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS layer will make the business agile, responsive to market opportunities, therefore profitable.
THE COMPLETE IT AS A SERVICE (ITAAS) DELIVERY MODEL
The Complete ITaaS Delivery Model popularized in my best selling, The Art of Integrating AWS and DevOps: The Complete ITaaS Delivery Model (available here https://goo.gl/NxFgqr) provides an overall philosophy for boosting the business using the cloud.
It provides a complete business and ITaaS platform architecture that makes easy and accelerate business transformations to the IT as a Service (ITaaS) model.
